Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Warriors Group

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a colorful mix of characters, and a gripping narrative showcasing angels, fiends, and malevolent powers increasing in strength within the city.

Warning: Key plot points for the third episode of Campaign 4 follow below.

The Soldiers Table Unveiled

The third episode finished on a dramatic pause and revealed the initial group of heroes who will separate from the main group to begin their separate journey, separate from the remaining groups.

This warrior group includes Teor Pridesire (played by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura), Tyranny (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (the player), and Kattigan (the actor).

Dividing the Cast

Given an extensive roster, it was clear from the beginning that having everyone at one table would be unfeasible.

This explains, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, intertwining the personal journeys before splitting into three separate parties: Soldiers, Strategists, and Questers.

What Defines the Soldiers Table

Per the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for players who are drawn to a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven story mode where peaceful solutions are scarce.

Upon first impression, characters like the hesitant healer the cleric might look out of place, but the events of the latest installment make it clear why these specific adventurers are best suited for the Soldiers table.

Why They Must Go

For one thing, the party has a clear idea where to proceed after a brutal first encounter with the enemy group.

Casimir of Thjazi—whose death initiated the story’s plot—used the foes for his personal gain, breaking into the hidden lair, striking the rogue, and taking all the magical artifacts to dispose of.

The traitor then settled his obligations and fled to a fortified location in the remote area, above the city, with Cyd close behind.

Character Drivers

Additionally, each adventurer has a individual motive to depart Dol-Makjar:

  • The agile hero, as the close ally and closest confidant, wants vengeance.
  • Kattigan has experience in the northern area and warns that it is a hostile location.
  • The strong character and The healer, having resisted his house’s orders to kill Teor and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
  • But, their position as important members in the influential clan could enable the party reach areas they normally couldn’t.
  • Moreover, Teor swore a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his rescue and will now accompany him wherever.

Wanted and Hunted

In addition, all of them are wanted by the powers that control Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making staying in the city no longer safe:

  • The rogue and The hero are notorious outlaws.
  • Tyranny and The healer betrayed House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
  • The fighter is marked for death by the clan.

This leaves them little choice but to journey toward the remote area in search of the traitor.

Upcoming Developments

Based on the recent installment’s follow-up content, we find out that the combat party won’t be around next week, leaving the other eight participants to form the Explorers and Strategists parties.

Viewers can expect discovering which adventurers will be in which group in the season’s final introductory chapter, released on next week.
